The Freedom of Information Act 2014 gives everyone the right to access records held by FOI bodies, subject to certain exemptions. A decision must issue within 20 working days, extendable by up to a further 20 working days in specified circumstances. A requester who is unhappy with a decision can ask the public body for an internal review, and if still unhappy, can appeal to the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC), an independent statutory body.
